These are a few of my favorite (yoga) things

September is National Yoga Month.  As a personal trainer and yoga instructor, one of the most common reasons clients tell me they don’t do yoga is because they aren’t flexible.  If you haven’t heard this before and even if you have, I’ll say it again:  yoga is not about bending yourself into a pretzel.  There are many yoga disciplines.... Hatha...Vinyasasa...Iyengar...Anusara...Bikram...Restorative...Yin...  Some focus more on just on relaxation and restoration of the body and mind others focus on breath awareness or movement in sync with breath, others are more focused on strength.  All forms of yoga promote stress reduction and mindfulness, and who doesn’t need that?!  Many yoga poses improve strength and balance as well as flexibility. If you’re not flexible, then perhaps that’s exactly the thing you need!  With the many proven benefits yoga has to offer, let this be the month you give it a try!

Okay, so you’re ready to give it a try but have a million questions.  No worries.  Amanda’s got you covered with her blog post on A Rookie’s Guide to Yoga.

Still not convinced?  Try just one pose!  Legs up the wall feels great and is possible for just about anyone to do.

It's time to give yoga a try!  We're proud to offer 7+ free classes a week at the Recreation and Fitness Center for SAS employees. Celebrate National Yoga Month with us!  Join the over 37 million American’s practicing yoga and begin your journey to better health, wellness, balance, and yes, maybe even flexibility.
